Founded on September 9, 1908, the Clinton Country Club has a rich history, beginning with the acquisition of the Sanderson property along Fishing Creek. Historical accounts from the time remarked on the beauty of the course, with one Express reporter noting that it felt as though “the fairy wand of magic had touched the picturesque banks of the Bald Eagle and its singing sister, Fishing Creek.”

The original recreational facilities included tennis and croquet courts, along with a boathouse capable of housing 40 boats along Bald Eagle Creek, allowing for numerous years of swimming and boating activities. In 1920, a nine-hole golf course was designed by renowned architect Alexander H. Finlay, often referred to as the “Father of American Golf”.

Mr. Finlay's contributions extend to nearby courses such as Phillipsburg Country Club and Centre Hills Country Club. Subsequent expansions at Clinton Country Club were made possible through additional land purchases from Dr. Joseph Magre, allowing for the development of another nine holes. The distinguished architectural firm Ault, Clark & Associates was engaged for this project, further enriching the course's legacy alongside their designs for Iron Masters Country Club, Toftrees Golf Resort and Conference Center, and Lewistown Country Club.
